Luke 12:13-21
March 2nd 2025, First Holy Day of the Month
 Rev. Tadashi Nagae, Pastor

A man asked Jesus to tell his brother to divide the inheritance with him. Jesus told a parable and taught about the greedy and foolish way of life. What was foolish about this rich man in the parable?

First, his heart was controlled by his possessions. He thought that he could be happy with the harvest. Many people still believe that they can be happy with what they have. They are also proud of what they have, and their hearts and minds are controlled by them. We need to be careful, because we are also in danger of being like that.

Second, he had himself in the center of his heart. The word "I" keeps coming up over and over again in his monologue. He had only himself in his heart and he completely forgot to have God in it. If we are not careful, we too can find ourselves sitting in the center of our hearts.

Third, he was not trying to be rich toward God. He wanted to be rich only in this world. To be rich toward God means to walk in a way that lays up treasures in heaven and to walk in an abundant relationship with God. We need to seek it first and foremost.

What would our Lord say when He sees our lives? Let us be careful not to be called a fool by the Lord.

<The Word of the Bible>
But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’
Luke 12:20 (English Standard Version)
